Japanese electronic duo Mikeneko Homeless and longtime collaborator lulu have shared a new single “Darling,” out now on all streaming platforms. It offers a taste of the trio’s forthcoming album, “Time To Love,” the first full-length release to come from this creative collaboration. It’s due out in late August, just in time to close the season out with smooth and sentimental songs.
“Darling” documents the ups and downs of daily life, with lulu’s vocals offering touches of the bittersweet while talking about everyday challenges, but ultimately choosing to stay upbeat. Mikeneko Homeless crafts a mid-tempo stroll to carry her on, featuring smooth guitar lines and a skippy drum beat.
Mikeneko Homeless, consisting of members hironica and mochilon, started working together in the late 2000s. They became staples of Japan’s burgeoning netlabel community, releasing music through Maltine Records and eventually writing for artists such as J-pop chart-toppers Sexy Zone, rising rap unit chelmico, and many more.
Lulu started sharing original music recorded entirely on her iPhone to SoundCloud in the early part of the 2010s. Her distinct voice and unique perspective on lyric writing made her stand out, and she began collaborating with artists such as Mikeneko Homeless in the years after, along with rising acts like Shin Sakiura and Afro Parker.
“Time To Love” is set to release in late August. lulu + Mikeneko Homeless’ latest single “Darling” is available now on all major streaming services, here.
